Head of laboratory open position
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Microbium is inviting a microbiologist or a candidate with a similar background to join our team and take on the leadership of laboratory processes, as well as perform microbiological analyses in accordance with ISO standards. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a microbiologist with strong knowledge of microbiology/biotechnology, who would take over the management of the laboratory and perform key (preferably complex) analyses together with the team. The work primarily includes analyses according to ISO standards, with occasional non-standard tests.
The role also includes various laboratory-related tasks such as organizing media preparation, maintaining equipment, and general management of laboratory processes to ensure smooth workflow.
Essential requirements include:
• Experience working in a laboratory (independent execution of experiments)
• Experience preparing SOPs (key selection criterion)
• Solid knowledge of microbiology or related fields (at least a completed Master’s degree in microbiology, chemistry, veterinary science, or similar disciplines)
It is highly appreciated if you enjoy communicating with clients—from the beginning of the process to the final report.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Managing, optimizing & improving laboratory processes (preparation, updating, and supervision of SOPs)
• Internal quality control and maintaining control records
• Performing microbiological analyses in accordance with valid standards and procedures
• Introducing new standards and certifications into laboratory processes
• Ensuring accuracy and quality of performed work
• Participating in R&D projects (laboratory activities)
• Handling administrative tasks (mail management, workspace organization, sending documentation to external partners, writing reports, maintaining laboratory documentation, etc.)
• Preparing for audits and collaborating with external auditors
• Ensuring team training regarding workplace safety
• Task scheduling, monitoring team efficiency, and providing feedback
• Responsibility for calibrations, validation/verification of analytical methods, and routine maintenance of instruments
• Collaborating in the procurement of new equipment (defining needs, testing, implementation)
• Professional communication with clients regarding results, technical requirements, and recommendations
• Performing other tasks as assigned by supervisors
WHAT YOU NEED
• Completed Master’s degree (Level VII) in microbiology, chemistry, veterinary science, or related fields
• Precision, reliability, and the ability to work independently
• Preferably residing in Ljubljana or nearby
• Knowledge of ISO standards is an advantage, but not a requirement
• Good spoken and written communication skills in Slovenian and English
• Ability to work in a team; leadership experience is a strong plus
• Moral values—especially respect, honesty, and work ethics
• Proactivity (you don’t wait for instructions; you actively seek improvements, innovations, and changes)
• Good computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Category B driving license and own transport
